We Care Repair
Every computer that leaves We Care Tucson passes through our repair workshop first. It is where donated machines stop being someone's old laptop and become a student's first computer.
What happens to a donated device
When a desktop or laptop arrives, our team of IT professionals and trained volunteers evaluates it. Working machines are wiped, tested, and rebuilt with a Windows 10 operating system and everything needed to use them: monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cables for desktops; a power cord for laptops. Devices that cannot be restored are dismantled and their materials responsibly recycled, keeping them out of Southern Arizona landfills.
Every hard drive is securely wiped before a machine is refurbished or recycled. Donors do not need to erase anything themselves.
Where the refurbished computers go
Restored machines supply two programs: the Low Cost Computer Referral Program, for individuals and families facing economic hardship, and Student Tech Connection, which places laptops with students from elementary through high school. They are not sold to the general public — both programs are application-based and reserved for community members who need them.
The workshop is also a classroom
Volunteers and youth program participants learn hands-on hardware skills here: diagnostics, component replacement, operating system installation, and safe handling of electronics.
Donate a device
We accept desktops, laptops, monitors, phones, tablets, networking equipment, cables, and components — working or not. Drop off Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 3 PM, at 3029 N Stone Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705.
